CAMPHOR LAUREL BOARDS

 

Handmade Camphor Laurel boards individually designed from solid timber slabs. Camphor Laurel timber is known to be one of the most effective food preparation surfaces as it inhibits bacterial growth.

For decades now, cooks in homes and restaurants have been encouraged to use plastic boards in the name of food safety. The latest tests done by numerous scientists have in fact shown that wooden cutting boards kill bacteria that survive well on plastic boards.

My boards are thick, carved pieces that are not joined in any way. Apart from being an effective cutting surface, Camphor Laurel has been declared a weed in some areas and hence my choice of timber. Again I am recycling something that would otherwise end up as wood chip.

The beautiful natural markings of this timber make each board unique. They will last a lifetime and if kept oiled will retain the colour and texture as if new. Both sides of the board can be used.

Caring for your board:

Keep dry when not in use. Use a scourer not steel wool. Lemon juice or vinegar will remove odours and stains. Oil your board regularly with sunflower or grapeseed oil. Never use vegetable or olive oil as in time these can become rancid. Never put your board in the dishwasher.
